LES ÉPHÈMERES, words in translation

LES ÉPHÈMERES, WORDS IN TRANSLATION, is a double projection and sound piece. It is the result  of an interaction with the Rain and Fog pavillions. A strip of paper is unrolled between the rain and the fog pavilion in the Jardim da Parada. It contains a sequence of words translated from French to Portuguese resulting from research onto the change of gender of words in the process of translation. The words are evoked intermittently between the rain and fog pavilion punctuated by the sound they produce. The visual state of water and the words in translation are presented as an ephemeral presence in a particular context.

WORDS IN TRANSLATION is a project which reflects upon appropriation of language, adaptation, identity, inclusion. The project started in Portugal and is ongoing in various languages. The next set of WORDS IN TRANSLATION will be from Italian into French, drawing cross-relations with Portuguese.
